Poha Idli

Hi Supermoms,

Beaten Rice/Flattened Rice more popularly known as 'Poha' in India , can be used to make variety of recipes. The beauty is that , Poha recipes are always easy and can be made within a few minutes.

Today I am going to share a quick poha recipe- the Poha Idli with just two ingredients : poha and curd. No baking soda /eno salt at all.

The only trick is that you will need to aerate the batter by beating it well using a spoon after you ground the batter.

Follow my simple steps and you will get super soft, melt in the mouth Poha Idlis.  Dip/drown them in steaming hot sambar and enjoy.

1 cup Poha /Flattened/Beaten rice flakes
1/2 cup thick curd
1 cup water ( adjust)
2 teaspoons sesame oil
Salt-to taste

Method:

1. Take poha ( no need to wash) and grind it in a mixie/mixer to a fine powder.
2. Add 1/2 cup of curd into the mixer jar along with poha , and grind again.
3. Add water, salt and give one more round of grinding.
4. The batter will be thick. Transfer it to another vessel.

5. Beat the batter using a spoon to aerate it .
6. Let the batter rest for 5 minutes.
7. You will find that the batter has thickened even more.
8. Add few teaspoons of water , one teaspoon of sesame oil and beat it again.
Note : The batter should be thicker than the regular idli batter. You should be able to spoon the batter using your hands . If the batter is not thick, then you will get flat and sticky idlis .
9. Grease the idli plates and spoon the batter into them.

10. Steam the idlis for 10 -12 minutes.
11. Switch off and remove the plates from the pressure cooker or steamer and allow it to cool.
12. Once completely cool, you scoop them out using a spoon.
Note : If you try removing the idlis while they are still hot, they will be quite sticky.

Your Poha Idlis are ready to be served dunked in sambar .
